“The Amateur” will be shown on Saturday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 17. Tuesday’s screening will have closed captions.
The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of the summer spy thriller, “The Amateur,” on Saturday, June 14, and Tuesday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
Charlie Heller (Rami Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA whose life is turned upside down when his wife (Rachel Brosnahan) is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.
AARP Movies for Grown-Ups calls the film a “juicy, stunt-fueled CIA cat-and-mo.” FilmWeek calls it “a tribute to ‘nerd power.'” The Sun (UK) calls it “a solid thriller, worth seeing for the action.” The Detroit News says of it “cold-blooded revenge is served up on a fancy plate.” Rated PG-13 for some strong violence and language, “The Amateur” runs two hours, three minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House ) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank.
