Barrington Police Chief David Daigle said officers responded to Motor Werks at 1475 S. Barrington Road at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday, June 1, for a burglary in progress.
On-site security observed a subject inside the service center and called 9-1-1, Daigle said.
The suspect ran out of the store and into a nearby vehicle when police arrived on the scene, Daigle said.
He added that the offender broke glass to gain access to the car dealership.
A post on the Barrington Police Facebook page Sunday said there was no threat to the public at any time.
Daigle added that the offender had multiple key fobs for vehicles loaded into a crate.
However, the offender dropped the crate when fleeing the dealership, Daigle said.
Daigle said the offender was wearing a mask when spotted inside the dealership.
The offender is not in custody and the incident remains under investigation, Daigle said.
