Visma | LaB had hoped Vingegaard could "stay closer to Pogacar," but: "If someone is stronger..."

They took control well before the final climb, but in the end, Critérium du Dauphiné. The Danish team leader lost a significant amount of time, though the Dutch squad doesn't seem too worried.
“It was a tough day,” said CyclingPro. “We saw a big explosion in this short but intense stage. For me, it was a good day. We tried to make the race hard and went on the offensive well before the final climb. That’s when the finale really started,” explained the American, referring to Visma | Lease a Bike’s aggressive race plan.
Despite their attacks, team leader Vingegaard eventually lost just over a minute to the world champion. “I think Jonas felt good and we really tried to him today, but Pogacar was just incredibly strong. Our goal with the early attacks was to force the other teams to chase. UAE, however, was very strong and always had numbers in place. So it all came down to the final climb, where the pace picked up very early. From that point on, it was every man for himself,” Kuss said.

Team director Grischa Niermann also had to acknowledge after the stage that Pogacar was simply the strongest. “He was the best today,” he said in a team press release. “In the end, the time gaps at the finish were significant. Of course, we had hoped Jonas could stay closer to him on the final climb. This was a stage that really suited Pogacar, and from the start it was clear UAE had plans for today. If someone is stronger, all you can do is accept it and congratulate him on the win.”
After Friday, Vingegaard now sits 43 seconds behind Pogacar in the general classification, but the Killer Bees aren’t giving up. “We’ll try again tomorrow. It won’t be easy. But I’m satisfied with how we raced today and the fighting spirit the team showed. That’s something we’ll carry into tomorrow,” Niermann said, staying optimistic.
Saturday with one final brutal stage to the Plateau de Mont-Cenis.

Carsapaz and Del torro were not capable of chasing Yates. They paused and looked at each other because they didn't have it in them. Yates had kept his powder dry waiting for this stage and demolished both of them. They lost Yates won. Carapaz is full of it. He is absolutely irrelevant after a rant at del Toro. Isaac had no obligations to do anything for Carapaz. It should remind one of the saying that goes lke this: "If I jump off the bridge, are you going to jump too?" If Caapaz wanted to win the Giro he should have chased Yates with or without Isaac. And if del Toro could follow, then so be it. But it was Carapaz's choice to slow down and stare at Isaac. Isaac was on the radio at times and you can bet he was being told by the Team car to do just what he was doing. Did I like that he didn't set out after Yates himself, NO. But the 21 year old was probably being instructed to do what he did, otherwise you can bet we would have heard from UAE mgmt. that Isaac chose to ignore their orders. But what we did hear was they were happy with his result. Which I think was a terrible betrayal of their young rider, who I think was capable of more than that penultimate stage showed. The Giro finished on a truly sour note as far as I'm concerned, because it was not "raced" The most crucial stage of the whole 21 stage race was simply given away, playing games with the unwritten rules of bicycle racing. "Leaders jerseys responsibility" and all that nonsense. Just RACE! It was disgraceful.
