Boycott, has been a long-standing servant of the club, making her WCCC debut in 2008, establishing herself as an ever-present during that time.

An all-rounder by trade, Boycott, says the opportunity to lead a team she has been a part of for over a decade is a truly exciting one.

“I am absolutely thrilled to get started.

“We have had an up and down start to the year, winning the first couple of matches before we lost some close ones, so my main focus is for us girls on the pitch to get back to winning ways.

“There is so much potential in this group and a lot of Cricket to come our way, so I want us to get the best possible results, starting this weekend with a big double-header.”

Having played over 200 games for Worcestershire in age-grade and senior Cricket, Boycott has been involved in some memorable performances, boasting career-best List A figures of 6-16.

The Rapids won their opening two games of the campaign, before fortunes changed and the side have fallen short in their previous three matches across all competitions.

31-year-old Boycott, was a part of the Rapid’s side that won the T20 Cup in 2022, whilst also ing appearances in The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for the Central Sparks.

The decision to appoint Boycott, came with few hesitations from the coaching group, as Head Coach Ed Wilson explained.

“Someone with as much experience as Clare is pretty hard to find, so to have her in our ranks and now as our Captain is huge asset for us.

“She understands the way we want to play and epitomises our values as a group, which made her the stand-out candidate.

“We are now all eager to get her and the girls in the best position possible ahead of Sunday’s big double header clash at Visit Worcestershire New Road.”

As a cultured opening batter in the longer format of the game, Boycott, has settled into her role as an accomplished lower-order finisher in the Rapid’s line-up.

2022 was a particularly frugal year for the all-rounder, as she scored her maiden T20 half-century when she ed 65 not-out against Berkshire, whilst also chipping in with nine wickets across that campaign.

In the same year, she ed another milestone by appearing in her 200th match for Worcestershire across all formats of age-group and senior Cricket.

Currently averaging 25 with the bat, Boycott has seen her side home on many occasions, top scoring with 90 not-out.

The Rapids Women continue their Vitality T20 Blast campaign on Sunday, as they play host to Northants Steelbacks and Derbyshire Falcons, in Boycott’s first outing as Captain.
