A mother of six was killed when the van she drove crashed into a tractor-trailer in Michigan.
The crash happened on the morning of Monday, June 3, on the northbound M-53 (also known as the Van Dyke Freeway), immediately north of 32 Mile Road, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said in a Facebook post. Authorities stated that the incident involved a semi-truck and a vehicle and asked motorists to avoid the area.
In a later update that same day, the department confirmed that the collision between the white Chevy Express van and the semi-trailer resulted in a fatality.
“The driver of the van, 49-year-old Michelle Castanos, of Bruce Township, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office's update read. “The driver of the semi-truck did not report any injuries.”
The agency said its investigation into the crash is still ongoing. No details were offered about the cause of the collision.

According to the Macomb Daily, Castanos' Facebook noted she had been married for nearly 25 years and was a mother of six.
The roadway reopened later that afternoon, radio station WWJ reported.
