Netflix star calls out President Donald Trump over 'disgusting' ICE Raids in Los Angeles
John Leguizamo, star of the beloved Netflix special Latin History for Morons, is among the celebrities who have spoken out to the protesters who are resisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers this weekend
Several stars have taken a stand in solidarity with demonstrators opposing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids carried out over the weekend in California.
Notably ing the chorus of voices critical of denouncing President Trump for deploying the National Guard in response to the Southern California city's ongoing demonstrations on Monday.
"It's just beyond heartbreaking and heart-wrenching to see all these innocent, beautiful people looking for a better life: Mothers, sons, daughters, fathers, who look just like my family, being picked up [and] disappear[ing] into gulags and detention camps," the actor expressed in the widely-shared social media video.
In the emotionally charged black-and-white footage, John empathized with protestors, mentioning their fury was due to the fact that deportations were being conducted without proper legal procedures.
"Their only crime was being Brown and indigenous and then just disappear just like that and then when American citizens are disgusted and protest then Trump sends a National Guard when he couldn't even get the National Guard to go to protect our capital when it was being attacked on January 6," he continued, contrasting how Trump dealt with the Los Angeles protests versus the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, reports.
On January 6, 2021, a multitude of individuals breached the White House in an attempt to halt the certification of electoral college votes that would confirm then President-elect Joe Biden's win.
The Golden Globes nominee then asserted that "racism" brought joy to Trump and was the "reason" for the recent immigration enforcement actions under his istration.
"There is no other reason these people are innocent loving human beings. I'm disgusted I can't take it anymore," said John, best known for his Netflix show, John Leguizamo's Latin History for Morons, as he concluded his video.
Recent protests in Los Angeles erupted following the arrest of over 40 immigrants by ICE officers and others during raids targeting workers at a Home Depot parking lot and employees at the Ambiance Apparel clothing company, in search of "fictitious employee documents", as reported by NBC News on Friday.
Over the past four days, the protests have continued unabated, escalating in intensity and violence.
As per The Guardian, both journalists and protesters have been "reportedly struck by projectiles, while LA police say two officers are injured after being struck by motorcyclists attempting to 'breach a skirmish line.'"
