The New Orleans Pelicans’ former first-overall pick, Zion Williamson, could be on the move this offseason.
One team that could be perfect for Williamson is the Celtics.
Since coming into the NBA, Williamson has been given sky-high expectations. Despite becoming a two-time All Star, Williamson is considered a bust by many. Williamson just had a 24.6 PPG season, but he’s failed to make the All Star Game since the 2022-2023 season.
Now, Williamson is dealing with off-court issues. Brett Martel of AP News gives the rundown on the issue.
Per Martel, “Zion Williamson is being sued by a woman describing herself as a former dating partner and who alleges the New Orleans Pelicans star committed repeated sexual violence against her.”
This is clearly not a matter to be taken lightly, and it’s an issue that every team is aware of by now. However, at the right price, the Celtics could be willing to take a shot on Williamson. This is Not a Report.

With the Pelicans going 21-61 last season, it’s time to blow everything up. That means a completely fresh start. Shamit Dua gave an update on the trade value of Williamson, which was reported by NBACentral on Twitter.

The takeaway here is that these allegations aren’t going to stop a Williamson trade. However, it seems like the trade value for Williamson is at an all-time low.
Even though that’s the case, it’s time to sell low on Williamson. This once promising young star has turned into a disaster that the Pelicans need to part ways with right away.
How Zion Williamson Fits with the Celtics 5x1e3d
After losing Jayson Tatum, the Celtics are immediately in need of more star power. The Celtics have a great roster, but losing Tatum is such a huge loss.
Rather than trying to retool the team and punt next year, Williamson can be a temporary band-aid and long-term solution. Adding a 24.6 PPG scorer in Williamson is an immediate upgrade over Al Horford.
Assuming all is well for Williamson off the court, this trade should put the Celtics back in contention for a title next year.

Boston Celtics Receive: Zion Williamson
While this trade may seem light for Williamson, this isn’t exactly a seller’s market. Again, the Pelicans don’t have the time to wait around for the perfect offer; they need to trade Williamson now.
The Celtics have the core to deal with any more trouble with Williamson if worse comes to worst. You can’t say the same for the Pelicans. Getting Payton Pritchard would be a great addition for the Pelicans, and they also get a number of other assets.
Despite never living up to his full potential in the eyes of many, Zion Williamson would be a great addition to the Boston Celtics.
