Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo presented a matanigasau as a symbol of apology to the mataqali Nabukebuke, however, the mataqali has not agreed to renew the Special Prospecting License for the Namosi t Venture. 6468c

While speaking at the village hall in Namosi, Vosarogo says the matanigasau was not only on his behalf as Minister, but also on behalf of the Coalition Government and past governments that have served the nation.

Vosarogo acknowledged the trauma experienced by the landowners over the years due to actions taken by previous governments without proper consultation.

He also highlighted that he has heard a lot being said about him and his family, and he feels the need to protect them as well by presenting a matanigasau.

Vosarogo emphasized that as the iTaukei, they are known for forgiveness, reconciliation, and finding a way forward for the betterment of all.

The Minister further confirmed that a review of the Mining Act is currently underway and will be designed to ensure transparency and public awareness.

A member of the mataqali Nabukebuke, Sipiriano Nariva says all have agreed that the exploration license should not be renewed. Nariva emphasizes that the government should prioritize the wellbeing of the people and the environmental impacts they face, rather than pushing for the license renewal.

He adds that they are not only fighting for those who are alive today but also for the sake of future generations.
