ISLAMABAD – The main suspect in the murder of TikToker Sana Yousaf, Umar Hayat, was presented before Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal at the Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Wednesday under tight security.
The suspect, whose face was covered, was brought to the court amid heightened security arrangements. The police requested his physical remand and sought approval for an identification parade.
Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal approved the investigation officer’s request and sent the accused to jail on a 14-day judicial remand for the purpose of the identification parade.
The court directed the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to ensure that the accused does not meet anyone during the identification process. Additionally, police were instructed to submit a report on the identification parade before June 18.
An unusual situation unfolded in the courtroom when both the concerned prosecutor and the district prosecutor were absent during the proceedings. Senator Falak Naz was also present in the courtroom at the time, along with a significant number of court staff and media representatives.
Expressing displeasure over the absence of prosecutors, Magistrate Gondal remarked, “Where is the prosecutor of my court? They usually don’t show up, but today everyone else is here!” He then ordered that the district prosecutor be summoned immediately.
The duty prosecutor informed the court that the assigned prosecutor was on leave, prompting the magistrate to respond firmly, “The case will not proceed until the district prosecutor arrives.”
Following a brief break, the hearing resumed and the court issued a written order.
