For generations, fathers have stood like unshakable pillars providing, protecting, guiding without ever asking for recognition. But today, a quiet revolution is underway. The children of these silent heroes, especially Gen Z and young millennials, are beginning to speak up, express love, and reciprocate in ways their fathers never asked for, but deeply cherish.

“Fathers have always been the quiet heroes strong, steady, and always present, yet never the ones to ask for praise," says Varun Moolchandani, Executive Director, Archies. “For a long time, many of us stayed quiet too. But now, that’s changing. We see people increasingly taking cards, writing messages, and just telling their dads things like ‘Thank you’ and ‘I love you.’" Archies’ new campaign, #DearDad, taps into this wave of emotional expression, encouraging children to say the things dads never ask to hear, but will always treasure.

This sentiment is echoed by Muskan Mahajan, a 23-year-old student at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, who reflects, “He’s been our serenity in every storm, our unspoken strength when times were hard… A handwritten note, a caring present, and a simple ‘We love you’ because you deserve that, and so much more."

Beyond words, expressions of love are becoming more diverse and thoughtful. Shrey Sehgal, Co-founder, FlowerAura, shares how emotional gifting is evolving: “We’re seeing flowers being chosen to express love and gratitude, breaking the old notion that flowers are only for females. Cakes are becoming canvases of personal expression, and hampers offer thoughtfully curated experiences. It’s about more than just tradition, it’s about expressing the emotions we’ve always wanted to share, but never quite knew how."

This rising emotional awareness is also reflected in lifestyle choices. GUESS India observes a shift in gifting patterns, where fashion is becoming a meaningful gesture. “Shoppers are choosing pieces that feel personal and stylish — like classic GUESS jeans, structured polos, and statement watches," shares a brand spokesperson. “It’s not just about the clothes, it’s about showing appreciation in a way that feels both modern and meaningful. Style doesn’t come with an age limit, it only gets better with time."

For young professionals like Nisha Popli, 24, a PR professional, the shift is deeply personal. “I’ve come to realise how deeply our fathers have always been there; quietly, consistently, and without ever asking for anything in return. This generation is finally learning to pause, reflect, and reciprocate. We’re re-writing the script of fatherhood with gratitude, empathy, and communication."

Whether it’s a flower, a fashion statement, or a heartfelt note, this Father’s Day is less about grand gestures and more about genuine connection. It’s a moment where children — once too shy or unaware are now choosing to see, hear, and celebrate the men who were always there.

As Moolchandani aptly puts it, “It’s not about waiting for the ‘right moment’ anymore — this generation is making that moment."
