LANGDON — Family, faculty and staff gathered at Fall Mountain Regional High School on Saturday to celebrate the graduation of the school’s 113 seniors clad in maroon and white robes, in a ceremony where braving and embracing change was a recurring theme.
“It’s going to be different not seeing the same people every day,” Kaeleb Tewksbury of Charlestown said before the ceremony, which took place in the gym. “But it’s something that I’ll have to get used to.”
He said he was excited about the future, but also acknowledged that he will miss having the familiar routine and environment that high school provided.
Tewskbury said he hopes to enter a career in landscaping or horticulture, adding that he would prefer working outdoors and close to nature.
Two of the six Summa Cum Laude students of the graduating class, Mariella Tsitsonis and Charlie Fowle, volunteered and were selected to deliver speeches to their peers at the ceremony. Fall Mountain, which covers Acworth, Alstead, Charleston, Langdon and Walpole, traditionally awards its highest academic honor to two students of each graduating class in place of naming a valedictorian and salutatorian.
Speaking about change, Tsitsonis said that while the unknown can feel strange and intimidating, the Class of 2025 is ready to brave those challenges.
“One of the beautiful things about life is that we are continuously evolving,” Tsitsonis said. “Change brings an opportunity to become whoever we want to and change will help us grow again.”
In parting wisdom to the cohort, Fowle urged classmates to prioritize friendships, self-care and perseverance.
“I ask that we stay ambitious, work hard and consistently for our goals and dreams, fight for what we believe in and never give in to setbacks, failures or those who tell you that you can’t,” Fowle said.
Alissa Bascom, chairperson of the Fall Mountain school board, encouraged the graduates to use their educational foundation to make the world a better place and to value community and the importance of every person’s wellbeing.
“A community divided by indifference, judgment and selfishness cannot stand,” Bascom said. “But when we truly each other, we build something important. We create trust.”
Guest speaker George Tsitsonis, a school alumnus and Fall Mountain’s girls varsity soccer coach, said that growth and change are opportunities to find a ion and to create one’s own definition of happiness and fulfillment.
“ your values,” Tsitsonis added. “Your identity is not what you do [for a living] but who you are. Degrees, titles and fortune are worthy aspirations but will never replace the timeless virtues of kindness, humility, generosity, integrity and love for our family and friends.”
The ceremony also recognized three students from the graduation class with annual school awards for excellence.
Rebecca Robison received the Principal’s Award, a recognition for a student’s demonstration of leadership, academic excellence and service to the community.
Mariella Tsitsonis received the Wildcat Award for best representing the school’s core values of respect, character, responsibility and citizenship.
Madisyn Wilke earned the Faculty Award, which recognizes student growth and perseverance.
