The Port Moresby Business College (PMBC) has today received a generous donation of 10 high-specification laptops from Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL).

This donation took place this morning at the college marked KMHL’s first significant to the institution and aligns with it’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of the Management who were not present, KMHL Media & Public Relations Manager, Sylvia Avitu said that the laptop donation is part of the process of education.

“We are pleased to make this donation. We hope that by using the digital tools we are contributing to a more inclusive education,” she said.

According to the Head of IT Division, Mr Derek Bigiglen, the laptops, costing K40,990, are crucial for integrating modern teaching methodologies and advanced software into the curriculum.

“The basic idea behind us is we need laptops that new operating systems that can help us to improve our learning where we can teach different types of pedagogies where students can learn,” said Mr Bigiglen.

“We found this a challenge, we wrote to them and they ed the idea, so it’s part of their ongoing commitment to learning within the school.”

Mr Derek said that each of the 10 laptops, costs K4,990, which will enable the college to run heavier software. This capability will facilitate the design of simulations, practical exercises, and video graphics, ultimately leading to a more dynamic and engaging learning environment.

While primarily for staff use initially, the benefits are expected to extend to students through improved educational approaches and access to cutting-edge tools.

The college is keen to foster a long-term partnership with Kumul Minerals Holdings. “That’s the first time we are reaching out to them,” Bigiglen stated.
