
Izmir City Theatres organised a special event on its stage to mark the death anniversary of Nazım Hikmet Ran, one of the most important names in contemporary Turkish poetry.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters (IzBBŞT) commemorated Nazım Hikmet Ran, a universal value of Turkish literature, with a special event on the 62nd anniversary of his death. The event, which took place at the IzBBŞT İsmet İnönü Stage, was attended by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Elvin Sönmez Güler, acting for Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay, IzBBŞT General Art Director Levent Üzümcü, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Department Head Yener Ceylan, IzBBŞT Branch Manager Ilayda Akbıyık, IzBBŞT Advisory Board Member Prof. Dr. Semih Çelenk, bureaucrats and art lovers.
To keep the literary legacy of Nazım Hikmet alive
In the event, one of the poet's important works, the Kuvâyi Milliye Epic, met with art lovers in a recital format. The performance, directed by İzBBŞT Deputy General Art Director Harun Özer, was brought to the stage in order to keep Nazım Hikmet's literary heritage alive and to transfer the spirit of national struggle to future generations through art. In the event, where Nazım Hikmet's powerful narrative was combined with the actors' comments, the performance of the İzmir City Theater artists was frequently interrupted by applause.
The performance, in which cartoonist Nuri Kurt Cebe's drawings from his work "Kuvâyi Milliye" were also used, featured dramaturgy by Duygu Kankaytsın Çelenk and lighting design by Kaan Burmaoğlu.
